Personal injury rehabilitation during the COVID-19 pandemic

The first case of COVID-19 (better known as coronavirus) was detected on 17 November 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Some 5 months later, its difficult to envisage how this unheard of and deadly virus would cause havoc to our world, leaving a death toll of more than 200,000.
The continuing effects of COVID-19 is evident across the globe including in the UK where more than 20,000 deaths have been recorded. The virus continues to cause a havoc to our National Health Service who are working tirelessly at the frontline to save lives. However, the ripple effect of the virus has left many patients in danger of falling through the gaps during this pandemic, including individuals those who have suffered life-changing injuries including (but not limited to) traumatic and serious brain injuries through no fault of their own.
As our NHS struggles to contain the virus its most obvious effects are felt by those who are unable to use the services from which they would otherwise have benefitted and whose needs are, rightly, now placed secondary to those suffering from the virus, e.g. individuals who have injuries following a serious road traffic accident, an accident at work, a slipping or tripping accident and which have been as a result of third-party’s fault. As the NHS frees up beds to deal with the COVID-19 crisis, individuals who are in need for the appropriate support, in turn to be provided by an appropriate expert (who understandably may be redeployed at the present time), are left in a limbo.
For some, at least for the foreseeable future, “virtual rehabilitation” seems to be the only answer. If you have been unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident through no fault of yours during this pandemic, you may feel even more vulnerable, especially if your loved ones cannot help you because they need to self-isolate. This is likely to have drastic effects especially on those individuals who have been involved in life-changing injuries.
With the NHS stretched to its maximum capacity, we can assist and ascertain your rehabilitation needs and ensure a comprehensive plan is put in place for private/specialist treatment if you have been injured as a result of an accident which was not your fault.
Please contact our injury claims team in such a situation. Our team is made up of specialist injury lawyers who have many years of experience in dealing with such complex cases. We can guide you through your rights with respect to your medical treatment, cost recovery and compensation for your injury.
