Surveyors
Surveyors may be instructed to value a property or prepare a report on defects. A surveyor owes a duty to carry out their work with care and skill. Surveyors’ reports and valuations are usually relied on by those making significant financial decisions. When the surveyor’s report or valuation is wrong, it can cause loss which may be recoverable through a professional negligence action.
Where a valuation has been relied on for the purpose of purchasing a property, it may mean that the property is worth less than what the purchaser thought it was worth.
