About Nicola Gunn

“Encountering the breakdown of a relationship, suffering life changing injuries or watching a loved one’s mental health decline, are all traumatic and distressing experiences. A supportive and focused approach is critical to help clients and their families piece their lives back together.”

Nicola Gunn is a non-member partner, mediator, and collaborative lawyer, specialising in Court of Protection, Education and Family work.  She is based in our South London offices at Streatham.

Nicola’s practise has evolved from advising vulnerable families to negotiating complex financial settlements for separating couples to Court of Protection work, the latter of which she now specialises in.  Nicola acts for adults and children who through personal injury or illness, lack capacity to manage their affairs.  Her focus is on ensuring her clients receive the support they need.  This includes children and young people who have special educational needs.

Helping vulnerable children who have suffered catastrophic brain injuries is one of Nicola’s areas of expertise.  Working with families, she sensitively and strategically puts together Education and Health Care Plans which ensure the child’s needs are met until they reach 25 years of age.

Due to her many years’ experience in family law, Nicola has specialist knowledge and skills in advising vulnerable adults in Court of Protection matters.  For example, in cases where a vulnerable adult may wish to marry, Nicola can draft a robust pre-nuptial agreement to ensure any personal injury settlement or trust money is protected, should the relationship break down.

Nicola has always been interested in helping vulnerable people and this is what drew her into Court of Protection, Education and Family work.  Nicola is also heavily involved in charity work, having set up free legal advice sessions for various charities over the years, including The Carer’s Hub in Brixton.  Nicola is also a voluntary member of the board of the Streatham Business Improvement District.

As a trained collaborative lawyer, Nicola is committed to providing clients with expert advice, so they feel empowered to make their own decisions.

Nicola and her team are ‘considerate and caring to the client’s needs and requirements whilst maintaining a highly professional position in continuing to manage their clients’ – Legal 500 2019

“Excellent advice and help from Anthony Gold. For 5 years, David Wedgwood was the Deputy of the Court of Protection for a dear friend of ours, who was in a Care Home. During that time, he – and the other partners in Anthony Gold – were exemplary in fulfilling their responsibilities. Nicola Gunn was concerned with the day-to-day implementation of the protection plan. She was not only impressively efficient, but showed great kindness and understanding, which made a very difficult time much easier to endure. I cannot thank Nicola and the staff of Anthony Gold enough for their splendid work. I would recommend them unreservedly to anyone who needed help and advice in a similar situation.” – Trustpilot 2021

“Nicola Gunn has been hugely effective and supportive in bringing about a positive result in securing an EHCP for my son that ensures his additional learning needs have been properly identified and that he will be given the right support to maximise any progress. Nicola worked to tight deadlines, often sending out emails late in the evening to ensure I was kept up to date with proceedings and to make sure that necessary reports were sent out on time. Communication throughout the entire process has been excellent and she always ensured that options were carefully explained before proceeding to the next stage. The process has been challenging but with Nicola’s support throughout it has been made so much easier and I can’t thank her enough!” – Trustpilot 2021
