Jock Mackenzie speaks at the Bond Solon Annual Conference
On Friday 9th November, Jock Mackenzie presented the medicolegal session at the Bond Solon Annual Conference in Westminster.
Now in its 25th year, the conference is the largest annual gathering of expert witnesses in the UK, with delegates representing over 80 separate areas of expertise. This year there were 350 experts in attendance, many of which were medical consultants. Other speakers at the full-day event included Lord Justice Andrew McFarlane, Court of Appeal judge and current President of the Family Division, and High Court judge, Sir David Foskett.
Jock provided an update on the Supreme Court case of Montgomery v Lanarkshire Health Board, which set out the requirements for informed consent in a medical setting.
Jock’s presentation covered the following areas;
- An overview of informed consent, the case of Montgomery, post-Montgomery case law and developments over the last 3 years;
- The relevance and importance of Montgomery to the present-day practicing clinician, both legally and medically, and;
- How Montgomery impacts upon the medicolegal expert, including issues of evidence.
