Road Traffic Collisions – what you need to know

Most non-drivers do not know that white lights indicate a parked car is about to reverse, according to research commissioned by a Personal Injury Lawyers’ body. Similarly, not so many drivers realise that a pedestrian crossing a minor road into which the motorist turns from a major road, has right of way.
Sadly, every year thousands of people are injured on the roads around the UK, often in a car accident that wasn’t their fault.
What you need to know?
Many people assume road traffic collision claims are simply made by an individual involved in a car accident; this is only partially true.
You should know that:
A Driver of a vehicle involved in an accident caused by another road user is entitled to make a claim;
A Passenger in a vehicle involved in an accident is entitled to make a claim, regardless of whether their driver or the driver of another vehicle is to be blamed;
A Cyclist injured by another road user is entitled to make a claim;
A Pedestrian hit by a another road user is entitled to make a claim.
In fact, if you have suffered a personal injury in road traffic collision where the driver of the vehicle turned out uninsured or simply failed to stop to their give details, you may still be entitled to make a claim. The same could be said if you were involved in a road traffic accident in a foreign country. (However, of course, the rules for this are complex, so it is always best to seek a specialist solicitors’ advice).
Our team is made up of specialist injury lawyers who have many years of experience in dealing with such complex cases. We can guide you through your rights in claiming for a wide range of injuries (whilst putting in place a rehabilitation plan) as a result of a road traffic collision involving cars, vans, coaches, HGVs motorbikes and bicycles.
Sadly, if you were the dependent of someone killed in a road traffic accident caused by another road user you may also be able to bring a claim.
It is important for you to know that if you do intend to make a personal injury claim, you usually have three years from the date of the injury for road traffic collision.
It is therefore, advisable to seek legal advice sooner rather than later and this applies more so if you have been involved in a road traffic collision which has left you with catastrophic or life-changing injuries. In such cases, we have experience in assessing what rehabilitation needs are required, obtaining funding from the insurers and ensuring a comprehensive plan is put in place for private/specialist treatment.
If you have been injured as a result of a road traffic collision which was not your fault, please do not hesitate to contact our injury claims team. Our team is made up of specialist injury lawyers who have many years of experience in dealing with complex and high value cases.
