Have you been involved in an accident at work? – Know what your rights are

According to the Health and Safety; Summary statistics for Great Britain 2020 in 2019/20, 111 workers were killed at work; 693,000 workers sustained a non-fatal injury; and 6.3 million estimated working days were lost due to non-fatal workplace injuries.
These statistics are staggering and therefore, it is imperative to know what your rights are if you have been involved in an accident that was not your fault.
Employers have a legal duty to take steps to keep their employees safe from injury at work, including temporary staff. We appreciate an accident at work can cause anxiety and stress (especially for those who continue to work for the same employers). However, if an Employer has been negligent in not providing a safe work of place, you may be entitled to claim compensation.
If you have been involved in an accident at work, it is sensible that you try and record your accident within your employers accident-book (also record any previous complaints or comments about potential hazards that are relevant to the accident). If you can, try and obtain the names and addresses of any witnesses.
In addition to claiming for your injuries, we can also assist you in claiming for any loss of earnings and expenses arising out of your work at accident, such as travelling expenses. Most importantly we can assess and assist with your rehabilitation needs and ensure a comprehensive plan is put in place for private/specialist treatment if you have been injured as a result of an accident which was not your fault.
You may have been involved in a:
- Building site accident, including those involving machinery;
- An accident caused by lack of training;
- A slip & trip at work accident;
- Work-related road accident;
- An accident involving ladder falls or faulty equipment;
- Accident involving your workplace, such as an office
These are simply an overview of the types of an accident you may have been involved in. However, it is by no means a complete list.
