Past event: Managing change in student lettings after the Renters’ Rights Act
The Renters’ Rights Act is set to reshape the expectations of residents in the private rented and student accommodation sectors. This session focused on advice for student accommodation providers preparing for the upcoming changes that will affect the student lettings sector. Our speakers, Sarah Cummins and Nikki Basin, discussed in detail how the reforms apply to student lettings, including the exemptions for providers signed up to an approved code, the grounds for possession relevant to student lettings, and the use of licence agreements.
The panel discussions, led by Robin Stewart, also covered how existing tenancies will be affected and what steps providers need to take to manage the transition to new-style tenancies. Designed for those leading operations, property management, compliance, or policy within student accommodation providers, the session offered guidance on minimising legal risks arising from the Renters’ Rights Act and provided practical advice on how the new law will affect the management of student accommodation.
