Welcome to Rent Repayment Order Week

This week the Housing Team at Anthony Gold are focussing on one of the most important recent developments in the law for landlords and tenants: rent repayment orders.

Throughout this week we will publishing blog post about different aspects of the law relating to ‘RROs’.

On Tuesday Tamanna Begum discusses the Tribunal’s approach to making deductions in RRO awards for any financial penalties or mortgage payments paid by the landlord in relation to a property.

On Wednesday at 12.00 we are holding a webinar to discuss the latest developments on these topics and more. You can view the webinar recording  here. Nikki Basin also writes about who a tenant can bring a rent repayment order application against.

On Thursday we will be sharing a recording of a conversation with Ben Reeve-Lewis from Safer Renting, discussing whether RROs can ever be an effective tool for tenants against the worst landlords. In addition to the podcast Sarah Cummins’ blog will look at the criminal standard of proof, exploring two Rent Repayment Order decisions.

Closing the week Robin Stewart’s blog will discuss some of the legal issues involved when a landlord faces an RRO and wishes to make a claim against their agent for negligence or breach of contract.
