Housing Week 2020: Problems caused to tenants by redevelopment FAQ’s

This week the Housing Team at Anthony Gold are focusing on some of the issues leaseholders and tenants often face. Throughout this week we will be publishing a series of videos, podcasts and blog content covering different aspects of housing law, this is how the week is structured:

Monday: Problems caused to tenants by redevelopment FAQ’s with Eleanor Solomon.
Tuesday: Compensation for disrepair question and answers with Victory Thiru
Wednesday: Leasehold and new build defects – issues and remedies webinar
Thursday: Council/Local Authority leaseholders and service charges Q&A with Andrew Brookes
Friday: Leasehold and new build defects – issues and remedies FAQ’s

To kick start the week, in this video Eleanor Solomon answers residents’ questions relating to problems caused by redevelopment to a block of flats.

Redevelopment of a block of flats or estate throws up a huge number of issues for the tenants and leaseholders who live in the building. As of 31 May 2020 there were 300 developments with ACM cladding that needs to be removed following Grenfell.

Works have started on only 140 of these so far. The push for new homes and dilapidated condition of many social housing blocks means that major works will be continuing in coming years despite likely tough economic conditions ahead.

Eleanor Solomon, answers residents’ questions. These questions were all originally asked by tenants of a block undergoing redevelopment, so hopefully speak to the concerns you may have if you are in this situation.
